Bespoke dressmaking and tailoring

I’ve always had a love affair with pins and needles, fabric and thread. It is a joy to be earning a living from dressmaking and tailoring. I have many personal customers and the commissions are never boring. At the very basic level I am happy to do minor alterations from raising hems on special occasion wear to relining men’s overcoats. I remodel vintage clothing as well as making up retro styles from scratch using original patterns from all decades of the 20th century. I have many requests from women who want their wardrobes updated, especially if they have much loved designer clothes which need to be adjusted for size or the latest fashion trends. I can replicate existing styles in new fabrics and to new sizes. I also produce heirloom items from existing garments. Using traditional flat pattern drafting skills and computer aided design, I can make clothes to fit and flatter any figure shape or age.

A stroll along the seafront in a vintage inspired crumpled linen coat

A few days spent relaxing in Weymouth makes me want to celebrate the unusual joys of the British seaside. It is a resort defined by the great sweeping curve of its Georgian seafront and the stunning view of the Jurassic cliffs in the distance. Wrap yourself up in love with a wool blanket trimmed with floral cotton.

I love wool throws and blankets. They are so useful and just the thing to make you feel warm and happy in these austere times. They are a nice variation on the patchwork quilt, with the pretty heart motifs so reminiscent of the naïve art of the Shakers. I love Colonial and Frontier style and I think it fits in well with the make-do and mend culture which is everywhere now.

Vintage Linen Bags

12 May 2011 15:29:52

The fashion for vintage linen as a fabric for clothing, accessories or interiors shows no sign of fading. The Vintage Linen Tote bag combines the vogue for rustic hand-woven European vintage linen with the shape of the ultra casual, over the shoulder, large tote.  Frances Annie Baxter has added a twist to this ‘on trend’ look by making it reversible and lining it with the popular cherry blossom design from the Japanese designers, Kokka fabrics.
